Venice beach and Santa Monica

This morning we travelled via bus down to the famous Venice beach. What a crazy place. The beach itself is quite beautiful but it is the people and the activities that makes it so amazing. They have the open air gym where big muscle men are working out and a huge skate park and all sorts of different people trying to earn a dollar.

Lilly and I hired roller blades so that I could fulfil a lifelong dream of skating along Venice beach. I had pictured myself in hot pants and a bikini top but that was not to be. Probably for the best. We had heaps of fun anyway skating up and down the beach front. Luckily it was not too busy at that time of day so we did not upset too many people.

Cream cheese bagel. Yum!
We continued on further north to Santa Monica for a bit of shopping and a wander out onto the pier which marks the end of Route 66. Another Forest Gump moment - Bubba Gump shrimp for lunch.

Back to Venice beach where Cameron purchased the coolest skate board ever (including a bag for him to carry on!)

Bus ride home, followed by dinner. Our host then kindly warmed up the jacuzzi for us to sooth our aching legs from all the walking today. Nice.

  3. When Pete and I were dropped at Santa Monica (with a tour bus) they refused to take tourists to Venice Beach because they said tourists got harrassed and robbed. Can you imagine Pete missing out on muscle beach? Has been devastated ever since. This place is equally as cool as New York. Speaking of New York forgot to ask if you came across any people selling things from a suitcase?
